Supporting the Norwich Science Festival 2025

Larking Gowen is pleased to be supporting the Norwich Science Festival, taking place during half-term, from Saturday, 15 February to Saturday, 22 February 2025, at The Forum and other local venues.

A celebration of science and technology, the Norwich Science Festival showcases the ground-breaking research and innovation associated with the city. The Festival gives visitors of all ages the chance to explore the wonders of the universe and meet the scientists whose research is changing the world!

The Festival programme will feature talks, workshops, big family shows and immersive experiences. Larking Gowen is sponsoring the maths-themed events which are aimed at a range of audiences. These three events, based around maths, statistics and data, will showcase incredible research and demonstrate how maths impacts our everyday lives and the future:

Aiofe Hunt MBE: The Maths of Crowds, Saturday 15 February, 2pm to 3pm at Blake Studio, Norwich School. Dr Aoife Hunt will explore some unexpected applications of maths in the world of large crowd flow.

Katie Steckles: Playing Games with Mathematics, Monday 17 February, 11am to 12pm at Blake Studio, Norwich School. Dr Katie Steckles will demonstrate how having good logical thinking skills can often give you an edge in winning at board and card games.

Tom Crawford aka Tom Rocks Maths: Using Maths to Clean the Ocean, Wednesday 19 February, 7pm to 8pm at The Auditorium, The Forum. Dr Tom Crawford will explain his PhD thesis in Fluid Dynamics, and share the story of how he ended up sailing around Antarctica for six weeks in the name of maths.
