Sharon Moore’s volunteering day with the Cystic Fibrosis Trust
Sharon Moore, who works in Larking Gowen’s Fakenham office, has been fundraising for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust for 24 years. The charity is close to Sharon’s heart because her cousin suffers with the disease. Most of her events have taken place at either a weekend or in the evenings so she never thought that she’d be able to have the opportunity to take advantage of Larking Gowen’s Volunteer Day scheme; that was, until April last year.
Sharon explains, “I had contacted Fakenham Tesco to ask for a prize for my bingo and they offered me the chance to do an event in-store on a Thursday and to also receive the proceeds from their book sales for the month, which was an opportunity too good to miss.”
“Then I realised I had to get working! Had I got enough prizes for a tombola? Thursday is market day in Fakenham, and Tesco was expected to be busy! I raided all my cupboards and soon found that I’d actually got 250 prizes!
“On 4 April, I headed over to Tesco, set up my stall and waited for customers. I didn’t have to wait long! Some people just wanted to donate and some re-donated their prizes, boosting my chance to raise even more money!”
The total raised on the day, in just seven and a half hours, was £308.50 – which was double Sharon’s target.
The Volunteer Day scheme is to encourage those, like Sharon, who are passionate about a charity close to your heart. Those hours could raise enough money to save a person’s life or make a person’s life much better.
In total, over the years, Sharon has raised £67,900.
“I know this has definitely made a difference to my cousin’s life. In her words, “You have given me my life back.” All those hours of fundraising are worth it to hear that!”
