Larking Gowen launches Employee WellBeing programme

East Anglian firm, Larking Gowen, launched its Wellbeing programme with a Wellbeing week across the firm’s nine offices. The Wellbeing Programme has been introduced to support employees to achieve positive health and wellbeing in their work and personal lives. A range of activities, information, benefits and sources of support were available to promote physical, mental, social, community, financial and career wellbeing and employees were encouraged to participate in as many as they wished.

HR manager, Amanda Ninham, explains, “The Wellbeing initiative is a great way of demonstrating the firm’s commitment to the total health and wellbeing of our people.”

Events that employees enjoyed included football and netball matches, lunchtime walks and picnics, as well as opportunities to participate in holistic therapies. In addition, all the firm’s managers have attended a special training workshop designed to give them some insight on how to spot the signs of poor mental health and help team members.

Amanda continues, “We are keen that this becomes ingrained in our culture. This special week of activities is not a one off and we are hoping that some of the initiatives will continue on a regular basis.”

The wellbeing initiative, which will be ongoing, was designed to tie in to national campaigns, with the firm also wishing to support local charities. Two of the initiatives to benefit from this special week were the British Heart Foundation’s ‘Fight for every heartbeat’ campaign and Purple Picnic Week, by local charity, Nelson’s Journey.

During the wellbeing week, various activities were being held to raise funds for different charities. £181 was raised for Alzheimer’s Society; £47 cash donations were given to British Heart Foundation, as well as over 40 bags of clothes and toys; £204 was raised for Nelson’s Journey and various foodbank donations were made throughout the week.
