New podcast series for charities launches

In our new Charity FUNDcast podcast series, not-for-profit specialists, Emma Hayward and Giles Kerkham, chat about topics of interest to those working in, or aspiring to work in, the charity sector.

We wanted to create something that not only covers important updates but that will also inspire you, with something for everyone. We’ve therefore included topics such as Artificial Intelligence, myth busting, getting the most out of Gift Aid, alternatives to social enterprise and more.

In our first episode, we dispel some common myths around charities, including misconceptions around overheads, executive salaries, political campaigning and lots more.

The series goes on to discuss the best legal structure for a new not-for-profit enterprise, focusing on the differences between Community Interest Companies (CICs) and Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs).

We explore the value of Gift Aid to charities, the decline in the number of charities claiming it and why.

There’s a rather fascinating look into the impact of how new AI and cryptocurrency is impacting charities. We discuss the risks and considerations for charities when accepting crypto, including transparency, volatility and environmental impact, and the guidance provided by the Charity Commission on how AI technologies, specifically Chat GPT, offer benefits but also have limitations.

The aim of the series is to provide listeners with guidance and tips on topics they might not have considered. Delivered in bitesize episodes, the series is perfect to listen to on the commute to work!

You can find the series here, along with other episodes from the Larking Gowen Insights podcast.
